Leamington A?

So, so sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this. I'm back at work and I also wedged in a ten day trip to California.

Leamington, Ontario
Tuesday, July 21

That's Leamington A as in EH?  My fellow yoopers and a lot of Canadians add that A on the end of their sentences.  Its a pretty good give away as to your birthplace.

We left Port Colborne about eight o'clock in the morning.  It was going to be a loooooong day on Lake Erie to Leamington.  Our trip would be about 200 Miles. At twenty miles an hour it was going to be close to six before we made it into Leamington.

Lake Erie has a reputation with boaters.  It can be clear and calm and quickly whip up some crazy waves.  Because Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes it tends to get some pretty big waves.  It can also have a pretty good chop while looking deceptively calm.

We headed south into the lake to give us some clearance around Long Point.  As we headed East we started to get bounced around pretty good; Dan had to throttle back a bit to save our kidneys and our molars. About five hours into the day the lake calmed down a bit and we were able to get back up to cruising speed.

It was a slow day for pictures; but here are our boat guests.

As we got closer to Point Pelee we noticed a change in the water color in the distance.  It looked like it was cloudy or stirred up from the bottom.  As we got closer we could see that it was the algae bloom that threatens the lake every year.

You could actually see a demarcation line in the water as you got closer to it. It's heartbreaking to see the problems we humans cause.

We rounded Pt Pelee and made our way into Leamington Harbor.  We checked in and washed down the boat. Leamington has always had absolutely beautiful flowers.

We took our barbecue grill up to the picnic area and made dinner.  We enjoyed some wine and turned in before dark.  It had been a long day and we were all tired.

Next stop: Detroit!  Or our boat home in Harrison Township.
