Kincardine

On our arrival day in Kindcardine we just hung around the boat. We did some housekeeping and I caught up with my blogging. We just decided to stay put and do some exploring on Wednesday. We had a very nice surprise at sundown. The Kincardine Scottish Pipe Band provides a piper (The Phantom Piper) at dusk atop the lighthouse every summer evening to pipe the sun down. He plays the bagpipes for about 15 minutes every night. The lighthouse is right at the marina. I’m a huge bagpipe fan so I really enjoyed it. (Yes, some people really do like them.)

Wednesday morning we slept late and I made a real breakfast. We’ve been eating muffins, breakfast bars or cereal on the days that we travel; so on our harbor days I try to make eggs of some kind. We had Egg Mariemuffins this morning. Ummm, they hit the spot.

After breakfast we rode our bikes on several of the bike paths in the area. There is a very nice one all along the beach, north and south of the marina. We also rode through town and checked out the area. We came back to the boat for lunch and then took our afternoon nap. We had some dinner and then went for a walk.

We walked back up into town to check out the view and get a picture of the marina and then walked back down along the pier and beach. There were kids on the pier challenging each other to jump off. We’d watched a group of them yesterday doing back flips and diving off the side. The water is probably about 20 feet there. We waded along the beach and found the water to be pretty nice.

We were walking through the beach park and found an ice cream stand; so of course we HAD to buy cones. : ) The Kincardine Pipe Band was practicing in the park; we watched them for a bit. As we got back to the marina the Phantom Piper was bringing the sun down. The sunset was spectacular tonight. After the sun finally sank into the lake the whole sky seemed to turn orange and the water was an amazing turquoise color. A beautiful end to the evening.

Tomorrow we leave for Bayfield, Ontario. Our lake guide says it is only 50 miles from here; so we have no need to hurry in the morning.
